Western Isles Energy Solutions

Central Heating Programme

The Programme can offer:

  • free central heating providing heat to the main living areas such as the living room, hall, bathroom and main bedroom or bedrooms.
  • free insulation - cavity wall insulation, loft, tank and pipe insulation and draughtproofing.
  • free carbon monoxide detector, smoke detector, and cold alarm which tells you when your home is too cold for your health.
  • free advice to help you use your new central heating system and to use energy efficiently.
  • free check to make sure that you are receiving all the state benefits you are entitled to.
Eligibility:
  • you must be 60 or over and be the householder or partner
  • you must be living in Scotland and own your home.
  • if you rent your home from a private sector landlord, your landlord must agree to the work in writing.
  • the home must be your only or main home and:
  • you must have lived in the home for which you are claiming the grant for at least 12 months before the date of your application.
  • you must also expect to live in it for at least 12 months after the work is finished.
  • your home must be self-contained
  • you must not have a central heating system.  If you do have a central heating system it must be completely broken and unrepairable.
  • you home must not be affected by any order which may lead to it being demolished.
  • you must not have claimed a grant before for the same property under the Central Heating Programme.
Applicant Requirements
  • you cannot arrange the work yourself.  Grants will not be paid for any contracts entered into, or any work started, before an application.
  • if you live in a large home and want to extend the system to parts of the house not covered by the grant, you can pay to have the extra work carried out, in agreement with ourselves.
Applying for a Grant
  • you can phone a Helpline number 0800 316 1653
  • a representative will visit your home to make sure you are eligible.
  • when we are sure you qualify for a grant, we will organise the work for you.
  • approved installers will survey your home and put in the central heating and insulation.
