New Supply Shared Equity Scheme

On behalf of Hebridean Housing Partnership Tighean Innse Gall will soon be marketing 4 x 2 bedroom houses and 2 x 3 bedroom houses at Mackenzie Park, Stornoway. This development will be adjacent to the current site at Melbost Farm, Sandwick.

Expressions of interest are invited for these properties which are being offered for sale under the Scottish Government’s New Supply Shared Equity Scheme (NSSE).

NSSE is a Scottish Government initiative which enables Housing Associations, like the Hebridean Housing Partnership, build new properties which can be sold on to people who are on low incomes and cannot afford to pay the full market value of a house.
The Scottish Government will take an equity stake of 20% of the market value of the property and the successful applicant may be eligible to purchase a 60% - 80% stake.

To be eligible for a house you must prove that you can meet the following criteria.

• Be a first time buyer
• Be resident in the Western Isles and either living in social rented housing or have been on the waiting list for social rented housing for at least six months prior to application.
• Be employed or have received a formal offer of employment or have been recently employed in the local area where you want to set up home.
• The applicant receives a low income and so cannot afford to buy a property in the area through the open market.
• In certain circumstances consideration will be given to owner occupiers whose current accommodation:

Is seriously overcrowded and cannot be extended, or whose circumstances have changed, for example marital breakdown.
